Best Friends Animal Sanctuary
My favorite because they've been doing the work for so long and have affected so many animals and people. Too much to say about this wonderful organization located in southern Utah, and too little time.
Milo Foundation
And about 10 miles east of Willits in the Mendocino National Forest is another favorite, The Milo Foundation, where we volunteer to hang out with the cats from time to time. Though their main office is in Berkeley and the location of the sanctuary isn't broadcast because of The experience of people just dumping animals there if they know, and because there are neighbors, even that far out in the coutry, who complain about the dogs barking. They can use all the help they can get.
The Garuda Aviary, Lifelong Care for Abused and Neglected Birds
Mainly for parrots: a parrot is for life because the live a long time. People think they're pretty, buy them, neglect them, and abandon them like forgotten shiney objects. But parrots are very smart and very loving. This is a wonderful foundation. Named after the Garuda.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)
Does this make me some kind of radical? I guess so. Oh, well. Check out Peta TV.
I don't intend to leave anyone out. There are many, many more organizations doing wonderful work. If you don't like these (and even if you do) do a Google, Yahoo, Dog Pile, Ask, MS search and find an organization helping animals and/or people and help them out as much as you can.
